Cape Verde is officially a member of the Smart Africa Alliance. A giant step towards the implementation of the national and African digital strategy.

Cape Verde will assume the leadership of the "African Submarine Fiber" project, a process carried out by the Directorate General of Telecommunications and Digital Economy (DGTED), representing the Government of Cape Verde.

SMART Africa is a bold and innovative commitment of African Heads of State and Governments, with a focus on accelerating sustainable socio-economic development on the continent by introducing Africa into a knowledge economy through easy access to broadband and use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

With Cape Verde's entry, this alliance is now constituted by 28 countries and some international organizations. Its motto is "Transforming Africa into a single digital market" and its main objectives are to harmonize legal policies and regulatory processes; create scale economies to generate more demand and more favorable market conditions and attract, on a large scale, investment in ICT projects on the continent.

According to the General- Director of DGTED, Eng. Aruna Handem, Cape Verde has made consistent and forward-looking bets to improve the country's development, in particular, the growth of its ICT sector. These recent efforts have resulted in improved connectivity and the availability of digital services.

LBC believes that, with the right policies and partnerships, Cape Verde can assume itself, in the short term, as "Singapore of Africa".

LBC has already carried out more than 50 projects in Cape Verde, among them the definition of the digital strategy of the Information Society and Electronic Governance, in 2005, which established the foundations for the construction of Cape Verde's digital development. Other important projects in this area were the definition of the strategy and business model of the Technology Park of Cape Verde, the introduction of Information Technologies in Education and the definition of a strategy for the development of an ICT sector.
